Is it Time for Mommy to get a Makeover?

You always see those celebrities, like Heidi Klum and Angelina Jolie, who’ve just had babies; yet their bodies look as good, if not better, than they did before they got pregnant. As most mothers know, this is definitely not the norm. The physical toll that pregnancy takes on a woman’s body can result in stretched and sagging breasts, loose and damaged skin around the stomach, and stubborn excess fat around the hips and thighs that just won’t go away no matter how hard you work out. What’s worse is that repeated pregnancies can cause even further damage to a woman’s body and exemplify these problems. Don’t get me wrong, the joys of having a child are beyond compare, but once that “fuzzy” feeling begins to wear off, women are left with frustration and worry about their body; feeling that no matter what they do, they will never look as good as they did before having children.

Many mothers who have experienced this post-baby frustration request what we refer to as the “Mommy Makeover,” or the post-maternity body and breast reshaping, often including, but not limited to, a breast lift, breast reduction, tummy tuck and/or liposuction.

A breast lift is a procedure that trims the excess skin around the breast area and tightens the surrounding tissue to help elevate and perk up your breasts. A breast lift is a great way to fix the lost breast volume and the sagging and dropping of the breasts and nipple area (also called the areola). A breast lift results in a younger, more lifted look and firmer feel to help you restore, even improve, the look of your breasts to what they were before pregnancy.

Breasts generally swell and get larger in women during pregnancy and throughout the breast feeding period. Instead of being left with sagging breasts after this extra volume goes away, some women are left with breasts that are significantly bigger than they were before pregnancy, causing discomfort and neck and back pain. For these women, a breast reduction is recommended to help minimize and reshape the breasts for a more comfortable and more proportional look.

As far as those stubborn pockets of fat that don’t seem to go away after pregnancy, the solution can be a tummy tuck. Also known as an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck removes excess skin and tightens muscles to flatten and shape the abdomen and get rid of the loose skin and excess fat that remain after child birth.

Also for women with stubborn fat in the stomach is a method known as liposuction. Liposuction can be used on the stomach, thighs, hips, and buttocks; it can even get rid of the pocket of fat that may hang over C-section surgery scars.

Having beautiful bodies after pregnancy should not just be a luxury reserved for celebrities. Set up a consultation to find out which mommy makeover procedures will help you “get your body back” after having children.
